Buxton Town Derbyshire Constabulary Police Local Neighbourhood

I am Sergeant 3320 Denis Murphy and I have responsibility for this Safer Neighbourhood team.

I have been a police officer for a total of 26 years, covering a wide range of roles in three parts of the country - the Metropolitan Police, South Yorkshire and Derbyshire. In that time, I have been a patrol bobby, part of Safer Neighbourhood teams and a support Sergeant based at Matlock.

After moving to Derbyshire Constabulary in 2007, I have served in Chesterfield, Matlock, Ashbourne and now Buxton Central Section, covering Buxton, Chapel, Whaley Bridge, Hope Valley and surrounding villages.

I'm thrilled to be given the chance to lead the B Central Safer Neighbourhood teams and am looking forward to tackling the issues that matter most to local people.

I am particularly interested in fostering working partnerships with community and faith groups in the area, to improve how we work together to make our communities safer places to live, work and visit.

Operation Cracker - tackling shoplifting in Buxton Town Centre

# The Buxton Safer Neighbourhood Team will be carrying out high visibility patrols across the town centre to crack down on shoplifting offences.

# Plain clothes officers will also be carrying out patrols to act as a deterrent and identify and take action against shoplifters.

# Officers and retailers in Buxton will be using the ShopWatch radio scheme to share information about suspicious behaviour and crimes.

# Police will also be offering advice and encouraging shop owners to improve security in their stores to help to deter criminals.

Anti-social behaviour around Cote Heath Park

# Officers carried out high-visibility patrols within the park to identify groups taking part in anti-social behaviour (ASB).

# The Buxton Safer Neighbourhood Team interacted with youngsters to deter them from anti-social behaviour.

# Anyone who was caught taking part in nuisance behaviour were advised about how their actions affect others and how it could lead to further involvement from police and partners.

# Police also spoke to residents about the work that they were doing to offer reassurance in the community.

Operation Jericho – targeting speeding and nuisance driving in the town

# Police will be heading out on high visibility patrols around Buxton town centre to speak to drivers about their behaviour and how it affects the local community.

# The Safer Neighbourhood team will be speaking with local drivers about their responsibilities when they’re behind the wheel, and checks will be made on vehicles to ensure that they are safe and legal to drive.

# Speed checks will also be carried out to keep the roads in the area safe for cyclists, pedestrians and other motorists. Enforcement action will be taken where necessary.

Preventing anti-social behaviour over the summer holidays

# Officers will be heading out on high-visibility patrols throughout the town to deter anti-social behaviour (ASB) over the summer months.

# The Buxton Safer Neighbourhood Team will be interacting with youngsters to deter them from anti-social behaviour and to encourage them to take part in diversionary activities to help prevent nuisance behaviour.

# Groups found to be taking part in nuisance behaviour will be advised about how their actions affect others and how it could lead to further involvement from police and partners.

# Residents in Buxton are being encouraged to report any incident of ASB to police on 101.
