Fairfield Derbyshire Constabulary Police Local Neighbourhood

I am Sergeant 3320 Denis Murphy and I have responsibility for this Safer Neighbourhood team.

I have been a police officer for a total of 26 years, covering a wide range of roles in three parts of the country - the Metropolitan Police, South Yorkshire and Derbyshire. In that time, I have been a patrol bobby, part of Safer Neighbourhood teams and a support Sergeant based at Matlock.

After moving to Derbyshire Constabulary in 2007, I have served in Chesterfield, Matlock, Ashbourne and now Buxton Central Section, covering Buxton, Chapel, Whaley Bridge, Hope Valley and surrounding villages.

I'm thrilled to be given the chance to lead the B Central Safer Neighbourhood teams and am looking forward to tackling the issues that matter most to local people.

I am particularly interested in fostering working partnerships with community and faith groups in the area, to improve how we work together to make our communities safer places to live, work and visit.

Theft from unattended vehicles in Fairfield

# The Safer Neighbourhood team carried out high visibility patrols in the area and handed out crime prevention leaflets to encourage residents to increase their car security.

# Police identified vehicles that were insecure or with valuables on display during patrols and spoke with the owners to offer relevant crime prevention advice.

# Residents were urged to remain vigilant to report suspicious activity to police as it happens.

# Stop and search powers were used to check anyone acting suspiciously in areas where vehicle crimes are taking place.

Road Safety Concerns on Queens Road and Tongue Lane

# The Fairfield Safer Neighbourhood team carried out high visibility patrols to catch motorists committing road traffic offences, such as driving on the pavement and using their mobile phones behind the wheel.

# Fairfield Estate has a 20mph speed restriction. Motorists who were found to be exceeding this limit were stopped and dealt with appropriately by the team.

# Vehicles parked illegally, causing an obstruction or parked too close to a junction were also identified, with appropriate action being taken.

Speeding on roads in Fairfield

# The Safer Neighbourhood team carried out patrols and spoke to motorists about the importance of sticking to the law on the roads and safe and considerate driving.

# Officers teamed up with members of the public to carry out Community Speed Watch events in the area to target those exceeding the limit.

# Speed checks were carried out in the area with warnings and fines being issued to those motorists found breaking the limit.

Anti-social behaviour at the Skate Park on Bench Road and The Royal Foresters Pub

# The Fairfield Safer Neighbourhood Team carried out high visibility patrols around both locations at key times, in order to deter anti-social behaviour (ASB);
# Officers engaged with youngsters in the area to encourage them to take part in diversionary activities in a bid to prevent ASB;
# The team worked alongside parents and local schools in order to tackle individuals or groups found to be engaging in anti-social behaviour, and spoke to them about the effect that it can have on people living close by;

Road safety issues around schools in the area including parking

# Police patrols were stepped up around local schools, focusing primarily on drop off and pick up times.
# Officers advised motorists about the importance of safe and responsible parking to help boost road safety and make it easier for children and their parents to cross the road safely.
# The team have also been speaking to youngsters about road safety issues, along with raising awareness of the alternative ways of getting to school including cycling, walking and scooting.

Deterring anti-social behaviour over the summer months

# Officers in Fairfield teamed up to deter anti-social and nuisance behavior by carrying out increased patrols in parks and public places during summer evenings. This was to ensure that youngsters stayed safe when out and about and that no ASB took place.

# Those caught taking part in nuisance behaviour were be advised about how their actions affect others and how it could lead to further involvement from police and partners.

Speeding in Fairfield

# The Safer Neighbourhood team will be heading out on the beat to speak to motorists about the importance of sticking to the law on the roads and safe and considerate driving.
