Elizabeth Wallace PCSO

I joined Hampshire Constabulary in January 2007 as a Police Community Support Officer.
Over the previous years I have been a member of the Safer Neighbourhood Team serving the community of Odiham, North Warnborough, Dogmersfield and Winchfield.
I am a visible presence throughout these villages and am recognised by children for my educational visits to their schools. This recognition I feel is key to bridging the gap between the generation's of people who will or have needed to use our services.
Partnership working is vital in the role of a PCSO, I work closely with the Parish Council's and local authority to address issues that have a negative affect on peoples lives.
It's a privilege to serve this community.

Liz now works as part of the HART Rural South, Neighbourhood Policing Team. This area covers the rural locations including Winchfield, Odiham, Crondall, North Warnborough, Dogmersfield, South Warnborough, Long Sutton and Ewshot. She works alongside PC Paul Franks, PCSO Jack Whitear and Special Sgt Iain Tunstell

Older Driver Awareness Week - There are currently just over 4.75 million people in the UK aged 70 and over driving on our roads and the expectation is that this will double if not treble in the next 20 years as we all live longer. Hampshire is shown as having the highest number of older drivers outside London. We know that older motorists have a wealth of experience, confidence and tolerance. However, sight, hearing, reaction time and judgement of speed and distance may not be as sharp as it once was.
Fragility increases with age, so injuries tend to be more serious and recovery takes much longer. Casualty rates do increase for car drivers aged over about 65, and the fatality rate increases significantly. The Older Drivers Forum is about keeping mature motorists on the road safely for longer. Whether that’s helping giving you practical and informative help and support to continue driving or pointing you in the right direction for an assessment to identify you’re driving needs – from wing mirror adapters to an elevated driving seat. If you know an older driver, have contact with them regularly in your job or are perhaps just concerned for a friend or relative who is still driving then the Older Driver Forum may be able to help. Please visit their website www.olderdriversforum.com for more information.
From Monday 2nd October to Friday 6th October 2017, and in support of Older Peoples Day (Oct 1st), the forum is holding an Older Driver Awareness Week offering advice and tips that will help older drivers continue to drive safely or help them to decide when to stop. We will be visiting 5 different venues throughout the week: Monday October 2nd – Milford on Sea Community Centre, Milford on Sea, New Forest
Tuesday October 3rd – Haskins Garden Centre, West End, Southampton / Wednesday October 4th - Cascades Shopping Centre, Portsmouth,
Thursday October 5th – Festival Place Shopping Centre, Friday October 6th – St Thomas's Square and Newport Minister, Newport, Isle of Wight. The event is free to attend!

Certain types of crime are much more common in rural areas and some crimes, such as agricultural machinery and livestock theft, are uniquely rural.
Preventing and detecting crime can be harder in rural areas. This is due to there often being fewer witnesses to rural crimes and greater opportunities for criminals to target isolated properties and businesses. The impact of these crimes can also be greater, with people feeling more vulnerable due to their remote location.
Always report any suspicious incidents to 101, or call 999 if a crime is in progress.

Equipment and tool security can be a particular issue for rural businesses, farms and residential sheds/barns.

To keep your belongings safe.
Lock equipment away in a secure building or part of a building when not in use.
Invest in a secure storage toolbox.
Install a burglar alarm on buildings where equipment is kept.
Always lock vehicles when left outside and keep the keys in your possession.
Keep expensive items and vehicles out of sight when not in use.
Consider using hitch locks, wheel clamps or ground anchors.
Mark your tools and equipment and register them for free with www.immobilise.com
