Paul Beale Sgt

The New Forest is one of the safest places to live in England, crime levels are low and the continuing challenge for the team and myself is to further reduce crime in all categories and to increase public confidence in the police service. I will be ensuring that we are focused in supporting that goal by working with our partners, and within your communities.
This will include providing a timely response to community needs with intervention where necessary, along with organising pro-active activities such as speed enforcement, the execution of search warrants and youth diversion.

The results of our latest community survey shows that Theft from Motor Vehicle has been raised as a priority particularly thefts from cars parked in beauty spot car parks, especially in the New Forest. This means that the New Forest Heart Neighbourhood Policing Team will be targeting those criminals who operate in this area as well carrying out extensive crime prevention work in a bid to reduce the number of vehicles broken into in the New Forest. So far, as part of Operation Falcon which is Hampshire Constabulary's response to rural crime and Operation KOEMAN which targets Beauty Spot Car Park thefts from vehicles, we have held a crime prevention weekend where Police and Police Cadets visited every car park in the New Forest Heart area over two days and made everyone aware that they needed to take everything with them and leave nothing valuable on display in their vehicles. We were supported during this weekend by New Forest District Council who provided us with bags to give to people who didn't have anything to carry their valuables in, and the Forestry Commission who allowed us to put crime prevention posters up in the 6 most targeted car parks. This took place over the weekend before the Easter weekend and will be repeated in July just before the start of the school holidays. Working together with Country Watch, New Forest Heart officers are also looking at how best to catch those criminals responsible for this type of crime.

As a result of our recent community survey, Theft from Motor Vehicles parked in the New Forest Heart area have again been named by you as being in the top three of your Policing Priorities. In an attempt to reduce the number of these crimes in the New Forest Heart area we have increased patrols of the New Forest car parks and have carried out several special operations involving Neighbour Police Teams from across the Forest as well as Police Cadets and Volunteers to ensure that as many people living and visiting the Forest know that to prevent themselves from becoming a victim of crime they must never leave anything valuable inside their vehicle when they leave it unattended. But with thousands of new visitors to the Forest every year we need to keep passing this message on so 2018 will again see a significant Police presence in the Forest.

Also this year expensive bicycles are being stolen from the backs of vehicles so prevention work is being done in that area too, especially in the New Forest's campsites.
