I joined Hertfordshire Constabulary in 1994 and have enjoyed a variety of front line operational roles across the county since. I am delighted to be the Safer Neighbourhood Team Inspector for North Herts and to have responsibility for leading Letchworth, Baldock, Hitchin and Royston Safer Neighbourhood Teams who are striving to make a difference throughout the area and keep crime low. I am looking forward to maintaining strong relationships with key partner agencies, such as North Herts District Council, and working together with them to ensure North Herts continues to be a safe place to live, work and socialise.

I am sure you will have noticed several Speed Indication Devices - the smiling or sad faces indicating your speed - that have recently appeared in key locations around Royston. These devices have been proven to have a positive impact on speeding in locations they have been previously deployed in. We are confident the same will be the case in Royston. The locations have been specially selected to maximise benefit of the device. In addition to road-side hand held laser device trained officers, we are confident that these devices will further reduce the number of reports of speeding and, in doing so, keep the roads safe for all users.

Tackling anti-social behaviour problems in Priory Park and Angel Pavement after school, at night time and at the weekend. We will be conducting proactive patrols during the worst affected times and liaising with the public when problems are reported.

Your local Safer Neighbourhood Team is pleased to report that there has been a reduction in the number of reported incidents of anti-social behaviour (ASB) in this location. Whilst this could partly be attributed to the darker nights and colder weather, it is largely as a result of increased targeted patrols in the locality. Local SNT members have been conducting foot patrols in and around the park area during times when ASB has historically been reported, engaging with persons present and responding immediately to any issues raised. The location also forms part of the patrol plan for night time economy patrols, ensuring that potential issues at night are also prevented. Now that the weather is improving, we are confident that the location will remain a peaceful, safe place for all to enjoy.

I am pleased to report that there has been a decrease in the number of Residential Burglaries since the start of 2019 compared to the same period last year. This is as a result of increased hi-visibility patrols in both urban and rural areas, daily scrutiny of intelligence reports and relentless pursuit of those individuals suspected of involvement in this type of offence. In the unlikely event of such a crime taking place, our OWL messaging service is used to advise the local community, provide crime prevention and request any information. I would like to urge everybody to report any suspicious activity, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to the Police. Together we will continue to drive this type of crime down.
