Anti-Social Behaviour Prevention - Halloween and bonfire night has always been a night that can bring anti-social behaviour, however this year the local beat team will be working closely with residents and students in the lead up to the events to ensure Halloween and bonfire night can be enjoyed responsibly.

Officers worked hard over Halloween to prevent the amount of ASB, Leicestershire Police focused on preventing crime before it occurred, by conducting public engagements and increasing education to those who cause harm. This was shown by a massive reduction in the amount of incidents reported to Leicestershire Police

LRI Parking
Following recent engagements with members of the local community, it was highlighted that some people are feeling intimidated by individuals who engage in anti-social behaviour at car parks near Leicester Royal Infirmary.

A number of staff from the Leicester Royal Infirmary reported that they felt intimidated by people in the surrounding car parks. Local officers worked with the staff to ensure they were aware of the personal safety crime prevention advice and to offer the purchase of personal attack alarms. NCP are working to improve the security and safety of the car parks. Advice such as parking in a well-lit area, walking to your vehicle with a colleague and ensuring your mobile was charged yet hidden, was given. This has now been closed as a priority for the Riverside but would still urge staff that should they feel unsafe or intimidated come and visit the police office at the LRI for some advice.

Residential Burglary - The Riverside Team have conducted a number of community engagement events and reviewed the crime for the area. After a number of burglaries and talking with the local residents it has been decided that, burglary upon a residential property will be a priority for the Riverside Team.

The Riverside Team conducted a number of community engagement events. After a number of burglaries and talking with the local residents it was decided that, burglary upon a residential property would be priority for the Riverside Team.
The local officers reviewed all of the incidents that had taken place and put a problem solving plan together. Op Vivid was created by local officers to combat the burglaries that the Riverside beat were suffering from. This involved a mixture of uniform and plain clothes work by officers including reassurance patrols and visits daily. Since this was created officers arrested, charged and remanded a male to prison for Burglary. Since this occurred Burglary numbers have dropped considerably from 16 in the first 2 weeks of May to 3 in the last 2 weeks
Leicestershire Police would recommend you follow some simple crime prevention advice to help prevent such crime. When you are out at night leave a light on, if you are going on holiday tell a trusted person to keep an eye on your property and do not advertise it publically that you are away from your home on social media. During any hot weather DO NOT leave any windows open and be sure to secure all doors. An open window is an open invitation. If you have any queries or see anything suspicious please call 101, always call 999 in an emergency if life is in danger or the crime is taking place at the time of calling.

To prevent improper use of fireworks

Officers had some concerns that the illegal use of fireworks could become a problem due to historical issues in the area. Officers made sure that early intervention and prevention strategies were put in place. Early engagements with local residents and regular meetings with the universities took place to identify any issues early on. Officers conducted high visibility patrols around the local area. This has led to a massive reduction in the amount of complaints that have been reported to the Leicestershire Police. We would like to thank the local community for their vigilance and assistance with tackling this issue. It has shown that if we work together as one community we can all actively make a difference to local problems.

To reduce the amount of Graffiti throughout the Riverside Beat area.

We have targeted patrols around the graffiti hotspots and shared intelligence with the council around ‘tags’ and suspects seen. There has been a decline in incidents of graffiti but we accept this may be because of a number of factors and not just police action. The businesses involved though are still suffering an unacceptable level of damage and ASB and as such the graffiti priority will be absorbed into the new one addressing the concerns of local businesses.
