To tackle anti social behaviour in the area of, McDonalds, Thorpe End, Melton Mowbray, KFC, Scalford Road, Melton Mowbray, and the play close in Melton Town Park, during weekday evenings and at weekends.

Following a sustained period of intervention using a number of different tactics I am pleased to report a significant reduction of ASB incidents at McDonalds, Thorpe End, Melton Mowbray.

A number of staff and officers from Melton Police Station were able to use our positive relationship with Melton Borough Council to tackle the high number of reports received about incidents in and around the restaurant. McDonalds Area Manager Martin Kettle and representatives from MBC and the Police met to discuss options and proactive steps were taken by all, which has seen reports reduced to almost zero in that area.

For an outlet of that nature with extended opening hours this is a remarkable feat and measures are in place to ensure we can maintain low levels of ASB indefinitely. McDonalds management have been extremely positive in their reaction to our work there and we hope this can serve as a positive example of partnership working to improve the quality of life for local residents and the safety and comfort of people enjoying Melton Town Centre.

I would invite residents of Melton to direct any concerns they may have about policing issues in their neighbourhood to me, Sgt Jake Margiotta, directly as the Town Centre beat Manager. This will enable us to focus our resources and efforts into the areas causing communities the most harm. Alternatively use the non-emergency 101 number or CRIMESTOPPERS with information about illegal activity.

To work with town partners and the community to
tackle anti-social behaviour in particular large
groups of abusive young people who gather in the
Town Centre on Friday and Saturday nights
between 6pm and 11pm

The area of concern was highlighted as The Market Place, mainly on a Friday night. 'Operation Shark' was implemented to tackle anti-social behaviour in the town and surrounding area. This was a success with a large amount of alcohol seized and offenders dealt with. The amount of youths gathering in the town has dramatically been reduced, although alcohol is still being seized.

To increase the amount of visible time spent on
the beat, become more accessible and prominent
to residents and businesses in the Town Centre
between the shopping hours and early evening.

On market days we are still using Police Community Support Officers from other beats to increase our presence on one of the townâ??s busiest days. Our beat surgeries have re-started and the 'Beat Bus' has been parked in the town every Tuesday to reassure the public and to deal with any problems that people might have. We are working with the Town Forum we meet shoppers when they arrive by coach to let them know who we are and give away free purse bells to reduce the fear of purse theft.

been replaced with â??patch walksâ?? on Tuesdays. This
involves walking around the town, with our partners,
identifying problems and finding a solution. Working with
the Town Forum we meet shoppers when they arrive by
coach to let them know who we are and give away
purse bells to reduce the fear of personal thefts.

To increase numbers and support the SMART retail radio scheme and take positive action against those committing retail based crime.

We responded...
Town beat officers regularly patrol with the retail radios
provided by the SMART scheme and there are weekly
checks with the town centre CCTV operators to make
sure that the business premises are using their
handsets. There has also been an additional local police
officer dedicated to the town centre beat. Compared to
the preceding three months there has been a marked
decrease in the amount of shop lifters committing
offences in the town centre stores. This initiative will be
closed.

To work with businesses to reduce crime on the Snowhill Industrial Estate by creating a Business Watch scheme and installing a CCTV system.

We have really hit this area hard with high-visibility foot
patrols during the day and at night over the last three
months. As a result, crime in the area has been kept to
a minimum and there has been a 16% reduction in theft
from motor vehicles compared to last year. We are still
in the process of getting a Business Watch Scheme up
and running which we will focus on in the coming
months as part of our day to day business.

Issue dated: 18/05/2009

Action dated: 16/08/2009

To work with partners to tackle underage drinking and associated anti-social behaviour in the town centre, in particular on Friday evenings.

Again we have hit the town with an increase in high visibility foot patrols. There have also been two
operations involving officers from other areas one to address the night time economy and the other aimed a drugs awareness and enforcement. These operations mean there are plenty of officers in the right place at the right time, covering early evenings in the town centre. As a result of this, there has been a decrease in the amount of incidents associated with the night-time economy, for example criminal damage, assaults and public order.
