There has been growing concerns with vehicle crime in the area. We have received a number of crime reports relating to "Theft from Motor Vehicles". Majority of this is criminals going around and checking car doors. Those vehicles that are insecure have had items stolen. There has been also a few incidents where forced entry has been committed as well. Due to the community concerns "Op Pioneer" has been launched in order to monitor vehicle crime in the area.

‘Op Pioneer’ was launched in the area to help combat theft from motor vehicles, most commonly theft of tools from vans. Over the past few weeks officers have been working hard to help reduce vehicle crime and as such several people have been arrested across the Leicestershire area in connection with such crimes. We have also used 'Social Media' to encourage people to secure their vans and to continue to take valuable tools out of their vehicles. Please could I reassure the community that we are still patrolling your area so please continue to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Thank you everyone that has assisted the police in their enquiries.

There has been issues with local groups that congregate around the Aylestone Hall Gardens.
The reports allege there has been some cases of bad language, and climbing over the walls to get into the Gardens during the closing times. There has also been a case where persons were smoking Cannabis and drinking Alcohol.

Your local beat team increased patrols in the area and spoke to local youths regarding their behaviour. Patrols were conducted around closing times of the park supporting the key holder in locking up. We worked closely with the council and the park has been made more secure as a result.
Incidents of ASB and public order have fallen but patrols will continue to support the key holder and local residents.

We have recently worked hard forming relations within our communities by using Neighbourhood Link as a communication tool and social media. We have also established key individual networks within our communities forming Neighbourhood Watch. As for the unforeseen crime reports we obtained last year on Burglaries; we have launched ‘Operation Behold’ which is focusing on our top priority and to reassure our strong communities by working together. #OpBehold

Your local Beat team has been working hard during the the last few months. We have spoken to previous burglary victims and have formed many Neighbourhood Watch groups so that the Police can work closer with communities. Action dated: 15/02/2011

To tackle large groups of underage young people drinking and causing a nuisance to local residents and businesses on Saffron Lane, particularly outside off-licences, during the evenings and weekends.

Anti-social behaviour around Saffron Lane has been one of the Aylestone beats priorities over the last few months. Frequent patrols and a number of Restorative Justice results have helped in sharply reducing the number of anti-social behaviour (ASB) incidents reported in the area. We have had four restorative justice disposals directly linked to ASB or ASB related crime in the vicinity in the last six months. They have included, assisting in the creation of planters in Aylestone, apologies and payment for damage caused. There is also a project still to be completed which will involve painting at the cricket ground to cover the graffiti. The Neighbourhood team have also conducted Test Purchase operations alongside Trading Standards where numerous licensed stores and premises across Aylestone and Saffron Lane were visited. As a result of the Test Purchasing operations we have revoked one licence and have made major changes to the licence conditions of another premise and have issued fixed penalty notice tickets to two other premises. The latest operation we did, every premises passed. The number of alcohol related ASB has reduced to virtually none, hence the priority now being closed.

We met with representatives from Leicestershire County Cricket Club and agreed to increase security and a visible police presence in the area. This has been effective in that the number of complaints has reduced considerably. Although we will continue to monitor the area during the summer holiday we are now closing this neighbourhood priority.

To tackle anti-social behaviour caused by large groups of youths drinking and causing a nuisance to local residents and shop keepers in Saffron Lane (in particular outside local off licences) during the evenings and weekends.

By working with both youth service providers and City Council departments. A number of off-licence premises were visited and given advice and support about selling to underage youngsters. One store has had its licence removed. Groups of young people were challenged when they were in possession of alcohol and considerable amounts were seized. Those needing support were referred to the appropriate agency. We increased our visible patrols and intend to continue working on this issue over the summer holiday period.

Issue dated: 01/05/2010

Action dated: 11/08/2010

To reduce the problems caused by drunken youths causing minor damage to vehicles by kicking door mirrors off and snapping aerials. This occurs in the area surrounding Knighton Lane mainly between 6pm and 11.30pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.

As a result of police intervention the number of incidents and crimes reported has significantly reduced. In fact there have been no incidents reported for over two months. The main catalyst for the problems, although still a resident, spends very little time there. The Police, in partnership with the Housing Association, have highlighted a number of security improvements to be made in the area such as the securing of gates on sheds and storage areas. The Housing Association have undertaken a number of repairs and improvements. Overall this activity has been successful as the problems appear to have ceased.
