Why is this the priority?

Last year saw problematic behaviour mainly centred around the misuse of drugs (mamba). This brought with it increased volumes of ASB and retail crime. Last year saw the implementation of a problem solving plan which reduced the amount of drugs and ASB activity within the town centre.However across the district retail crime has increased with Sutton being statistically the most affected area and we want to reduce this The warmer months also traditionally bring an increase of ASB in the town centre which we hope to be proactive in preventingSutton is also soon be entering a stage of regeneration and the issues above can reduce the effectiveness of this work and as part of the Ashfield community partnership we are dedicated to supporting our partners to making Ashfield a better and safer place to live and visit

What are we doing?

The town centre now has a dedicated beat officer and PSCO who are engrained within the community. This is very important for engagement and will ensure that we understand the views of the community when making plans to resolve issues. A bespoke partnership problem solving plan is to be implemented. This is currently in the planning stages and awaiting detailed analysis to understand the overall problem before establishing a collaborative approach towards talking the problem. This will aim to tackle the most problematic offenders in the area. We are currently in engagement with Ashfield District Council to identify a base for officers form the Police and Council to use within the beat area. This will provide better engagement opportunities and ensure we are better established within the community.

Speeding Motorists - Sutton-In-Ashfield

Some roads already identified as having problems with speeding are Alfreton Road and High Street Stanton Hill, Mansfield Road Skegby and Common Road, Huthwaite. We have access to two speed measuring devices and will use them rigorously in these areas, prosecuting and advising motorists where necessary. We will record and promote the results monthly through our updates. Community Speed Watch is currently being set up for members of the community to be involved in identifying vehicles by recording vehicle registration and speed. A radar speed detection device is used to record the speed of vehicles and their number plates. Vehicles are then checked on the Police National computer to identify the current owner. Letters will be sent to the registered keeper informing them of their excessive speed and that this will be recorded on our intelligence systems. We will also focus on the Fatal Four Speeding Drink driving Failure to wear seatbelts Use of mobile phones while driving These offences are a significant contributor in fatal road traffic accidents and will be dealt with positively
Update - 22/10/2014 Between 09/10/2014 and 18/10/2014 officers conducted an operation at the following locations: The Twitchell, Mansfield Road, Sutton Mansfield Road, Skegby, Kirkby Road, Station Road, Alfreton Road, High Pavement, Dalestorth Road . The following numbers of motorists were prosecuted for the listed offences: 21- No seatbelt. 3 - Using a mobile telephone whilst driving. 4 - Exceeding the speed limit. 1- Driving with no insurance.
