Neighbourhood Policing teams…Neighbourhood Policing…
- Are led by senior police officers and include police community support officers (PCSOs), often together with volunteer police officers, volunteers and partners.
- May serve one or several neighbourhoods.
- Work with local people and partners to identify, tackle and prevent local, low-level crime, anti-social behaviour, and any ongoing concerns.
- Provide you with a visible, accessible and accountable police service and aim to make your neighbourhood safer.
- Have been present in every Thames Valley neighbourhood since 1 April 2008.
- Focus all of their efforts on their dedicated neighbourhoods, building relationships with local people.
- Needs you to tell us about the issues that concern you in your area.
- Has transformed policing at a local level, to meet the needs of local communities.
- Is known as ‘Safer Neighbourhoods’ in Milton Keynes.
From the start of 2010, Thames Valley Police extended its neighbourhood consultation by introducing a wider range of publicised opportunities to meet neighbourhood teams.
We will provide open monthly meetings to allow the public to influence our priorities. These meetings will be branded as Have Your Say opportunities, and in many cases will be held in conjunction with partners.
Once local priorities have been identified, a broader ‘toolkit’ of problem-solving tactics is being made available to ensure crime and anti-social behaviour is tackled effectively.
Across the Thames Valley area, there are many successful Neighbourhood Action Groups which will continue to deliver local problem solving, but the introduction of Have Your Say meetings will allow neighbourhood teams to identify more quickly those specific local priorities that need attention.
Thames Valley Police views the introduction of Have Your Say meetings as a positive step in tackling issues that matter most to the public. I welcome your support and engagement in this endeavour.

Exploitation of Vulnerable People |

A number of vulnerable adults in the Whitley area have been taken advantage of by many individuals, where they would take over their properties, take their money, and use the address to take and deal drugs from and cause Anti Social Behaviour in the area. We Did …. As a neighbourhood team we have been managing this through our Patrol Plan whereby we actively patrol these areas, visit the affected people and their addresses. We have worked closely with our partner Agencies which include Reading Borough Council, Housing Associations and Social Services to both support the vulnerable persons and to deter these offenders from attending the addresses. Through this approach the vulnerable are getting the help they need and we have seen a reduction in this activity from taking place. |

With the summer months we have had an increase in reports of Anti-Sociable behaviour (ASB), which includes gangs of young person’s causing an issue on Alleys ways in the Whitley area. With allegations of drugs being used, public order offences and scaring the residents of this area. |
Through these reports we have increased our patrols in these area’s to help deter this sort of behaviour which is unacceptable, and are working with Affinity Housing and Reading Borough Council (RBC) to see if these alleyways can be improved, such as potentially getting lights put up and improving the access to these for the residents. |
Issue dated: 01/07/2018 Action dated: 30/07/2018 |
Working with Affinity Housing we have identified an address in the Staverton road area that is causing a major concern to being involved in Cuckooing. Where by the tenant is losing control of her address to a number of drug users and is causing the quality of life to the neighbours to suffer due to the behaviour of these people. |
We are currently working on getting a Closure order on this address which will then allow us to help work with the tenant and put the necessary care plan in to support her |

This is to prevent the tenants of these address’s having their homes taken over by un-wanted guests and having a significant effect on their neighbours. By having these in effect we have had a number of arrests for breaching these orders and have also been able to get the help the vulnerable tenants need to try and prevent this behaviour from continuing. We are also working closely with RBC and the various housing associations and are looking at getting a number of injunctions against the main offenders to prevent them from entering any Social Housing Property that they are not the tenant of. |
