Neighbourhood Policing teams…Neighbourhood Policing…
- Are led by senior police officers and include police community support officers (PCSOs), often together with volunteer police officers, volunteers and partners.
- May serve one or several neighbourhoods.
- Work with local people and partners to identify, tackle and prevent local, low-level crime, anti-social behaviour, and any ongoing concerns.
- Provide you with a visible, accessible and accountable police service and aim to make your neighbourhood safer.
- Have been present in every Thames Valley neighbourhood since 1 April 2008.
- Focus all of their efforts on their dedicated neighbourhoods, building relationships with local people.
- Needs you to tell us about the issues that concern you in your area.
- Has transformed policing at a local level, to meet the needs of local communities.
- Is known as ‘Safer Neighbourhoods’ in Milton Keynes.
From the start of 2010, Thames Valley Police extended its neighbourhood consultation by introducing a wider range of publicised opportunities to meet neighbourhood teams.
We will provide open monthly meetings to allow the public to influence our priorities. These meetings will be branded as Have Your Say opportunities, and in many cases will be held in conjunction with partners.
Once local priorities have been identified, a broader ‘toolkit’ of problem-solving tactics is being made available to ensure crime and anti-social behaviour is tackled effectively.
Across the Thames Valley area, there are many successful Neighbourhood Action Groups which will continue to deliver local problem solving, but the introduction of Have Your Say meetings will allow neighbourhood teams to identify more quickly those specific local priorities that need attention.
Thames Valley Police views the introduction of Have Your Say meetings as a positive step in tackling issues that matter most to the public. I welcome your support and engagement in this endeavour.

Burglary - Ascot is an affluent area in which theft related offences occur. |
We continue to work with our partners and the community to raise awareness and build resilience. We provide targeted crime prevention advice and cocoon every street which suffers a burglary. This involves visiting every resident local to the offence and providing them with relevant information, support, reassurance and target hardening. We also circulate crime information with appropriate crime prevention advice via the Thames Valley Alert system. There are 1,500 residents in Ascot who receive these updates. The Local Community Forum (NAG) brings together key stakeholders from within the community to address, brainstorm and problem solve this issue. The area has seen an increase in burglary dwelling offences however the winter burglary campaign, op Lantern, included additional targeted patrols towards reducing further incidents and an offender charged with an offence. |
Issue dated: 13/09/2017 Action dated: 02/02/2018 |
Vehicle Nuisance - Reports have been made by local residents of ‘Anti Social Vehicle Use’, including general speeding in residential roads and predominantly, in Ascot High Street. |
The Local Community Forum (NAG) in conjunction and consultation with local partner agencies, stakeholders and local residents, have organised ‘Community Speedwatch’ initiatives in the areas affected, to alleviate the problem and address and educate drivers. The group have also looked at a problem solving approach to identified local locations where a reduction in reports has been seen through actions completed by various stakeholders. The Police and RBWM Community Wardens actively patrol in those areas and liaise closely with the Highways Department at the RBWM Borough Council to reduce incidents and provide a visible presence. |

Anti Social Behaviour - There are a number of areas within the neighbourhood suffering from Anti Social Behaviour, by groups of youths as reported by local residents. |
The Local Community Forum (NAG) in conjunction and consultation with local partner agencies, stakeholders, local residents and councillors have established specific details of residents issues, where they take place and when. Within the identified areas the group looks at actions that can be taken to prevent further reports and incidents which include managing persistent offenders and locations and where necessary, legislative measures are considered as well as target patrols through a problem solving approach. |
