Community Alcohol Partnership to tackle underage drinking |
#Police are working in partnership with other stakeholders and have agreed a Community Alcohol Partnership to tackle underage drinking. #You told us in February 2017 as a result of a survey on Hindpool and Newbarns that there is an issue with young people under the age of 18 consuming alcohol and although progress has been made, there is work to do. # As a result of further surveys in February and March 18, progress was seen and the decision made via the steering group to continue with the initiative. #We will liaise with licensing at the town hall and ensure that licensed premises comply with licensing conditions #Direct patrols at high demand locations at peak times for ASB. The Pro-active team can also be deployed to hot spot areas. #Liaise with door staff at licensed premises #Use appropriate police powers to reduce violent crime and disorder i.e. arrests, Prevent and Deter, tickets for proxy purchasers and sellers. #Early intervention via Section 35 notices where appropriate. #Carry out joint patrols with schools, fire service and trading standards to educate, engage and prosecute where necessary. #Work closely with schools, social services and hospitals to gather intelligence. #Work with parents to educate them re the dangers / consequences of proxy sales. #Promote the Community Alcohol Partnership at local fun days by using CAP materials and resources aimed at deterring young people from consuming alcohol. #Work with young people by encouraging them to take part in the CAP 10th Anniversary Film Project via schools and youth clubs. #We did a timetable of summer events which were provided to PCSO's for distribution to local young people to provide an awareness of diversionary activities. #We did a Rounder's tournament held between Police and Fire and Rescue V Furness Academy Year 10 to breakdown barriers between services and young people. # 'Using Someone Else's ID' campaign highlighted on Barrow Police Twitter account. # Submit a Community Alcohol Partnership team to take part in It's A Knockout at Barrow Park on Sunday 24th September 17 # Carry out multi agency joint patrols in the run up to Halloween and Bonfire night # Carry out a Proxy Sales campaign at the point of sale in Asda and Tesco on the weekend of 28th and 29th October 17 to educate the public to the illegality of purchasing alcohol for those underage # Carried out joint patrols with community development officers to consult with young people to gauge their feelings and desires for an outreach project. # Displayed Community Alcohol Partnership posters in off-licences in the run up to Halloween advising the public on the illegality of proxy sales. # Take part in a Respect Your Retailer Campaign in Asda and Tesco in Barrow. # We did a tour of local schools to give "Lived Experience" talks in conjunction with The Well. # Repeat surveys with residents on Abbotsmead and Newbarns to measure the success of the project # Repeat surveys with off-licenses to measure the success of the project # PCSO's and the park warden have carried out joint patrols in Barrow Park, directed at underage drinking and Anti-Social Behaviour # PCSO's carried out detached youth work in conjunction with Drop Zone to engage young people. #We are working with Barrow Borough Council on a Public Spaces Protection Order, which will give police further powers to deal with alcohol related ASB. |
